There are many developed noun classifiers in both Chinese and Thai. This essay is trying to research the special teaching principles of Chinese noun classifiers to Thai, based on the comparison of Chinese and Thai noun classifiers, according to typology and contrastive linguistics. There are three innovations in this essay: firstly, a deep exploration to metrology and independent classifiers in Chinese and Thai; secondly, through comparison, the exploration of the colorful meaning of noun classifiers in Chinese and Thai; thirdly, a research on the special teaching methods of noun classifiers to Thai.Noun classifiers are those that appear earliest and have the largest number, which can represent the feature of classifiers in Chinese and Thai. But there are few researches that make the comparison between the two languages on noun classifiers from the view of their original relationship so as to explore the special teaching principles to Thai. Meanwhile, during the writer's engaging in Chinese teaching in Thailand, much confusion exists in how to exactly understand and translate the noun classifiers, while mistakes and misunderstandings between students from Thailand and those from Indo-European countries are not the same, all which make the writer realize the necessity and immediacy of doing such a research. The content of this essay is as follows:Both Thai and Chinese belong to Sino-Tibetan languages that have developed classifiers, which causes the close relationship between their noun classifiers. For example, the types of noun classifiers in the two languages are similar. "Noun +numeral+ classifier" structure in these two languages was the same in an early stage. The rich colorful meaning exists in their noun classifiers. But after all Thai and Chinese belong to different language system, which embody the special way of thinking and the unique cultural information of the people in the two nations. This essay taking noun classifiers in Thai and Chinese as its researching object, mainly compares them in two directions. On the one hand, the author explores the relationship between them, finds the reason of the disappearance of reverberating classifiers in ancient Chinese and the reason why independent classifiers in Chinese and Thai are named the same but mean differently and proves that both Thai and Chinese noun classifiers have the obvious colorful meanings. By doing so the author denies the view point raised by an expert named He Jie in Chinese measure words, "the feature of color in Chinese noun classifiers is unique". On the other hand, the author explores the own features and the rich cultural meanings of noun classifiers in Chinese and Thai respectively after their separation. Through comparison, this essay, taking Thai noun classifiers as a reference, reviews the feature of Chinese noun classifiers, and explores the special principle of teaching Chinese noun classifiers to Thai, which is quite different from the students who speak other languages. And on the basis of this, it comes up with the relative solution to teaching Chinese noun classifiers to Thai. For instance, because of the different order in Chinese and Thai, as a teacher, he or she can Carry out the special noun classifier word order teaching; according to the different types of noun classifiers, he or she can make classification in Chinese noun classifier's teaching; in accordance with the rich cultural connotation in Chinese noun classifiers, he or she can teach the semantic and pragmatic culture, etc. This essay is trying to explore the similarity and difference between Chinese and Thai noun classifiers on the basis that they have close relationship, and to further explore the special teaching principle in Chinese noun classifiers to Thai, so as to have theoretical and practical value in deep understanding of synchronic and diachronic characteristics of noun classifiers in Chinese and Thai and giving guidance in teaching Chinese noun classifiers to Thai. There are two parts in the appendixes: evolution tree derivation of the Sino-Tibetan language system and the common noun classifiers in Thai. The Research significances of this essay are as follows. First, observing the Chinese and Thai which were inextricably linked from the comparative perspective, the study deepens our understanding of Chinese and Thai noun classifiers and finds the essential character of them. Second, the research advances the theoretical development in the research of Chinese and Thai noun classifiers. Third, the research gives guidance to the teaching of Chinese noun classifiers to Thai.
