Early 20th Century Social Novel Summary

This paper tries to use the plot and structure modes, ideological implications and narrative languages and some other theoretical approaches to explain the plot structure, ideological implication, narrative language of Social Fiction of the late Qing dynasty and early Chinese republic in multi-dimensional ways.As is shown in the introduction, this paper aims to a comprehensive review and theoretical thinking of the subject in a historical context, instead of exhaustive description. In the limited length of a master's degree thesis, this paper tries to make a systematic study by virtue of the transformational and supplementing method. If we say that A Ying's History of Late Qing Fiction reflects the spirit of the times. Then pin yuan's Chinese narrative mode (narrative mode) change is to teach me with narrative theory , narrative research of pure form ,and attention to the novel sociological research of cultural background ; David wang's Repressed Modernities of late Qing Fiction is to enlighten me to escape the traditional study of the appearance of things as they described, and the simplification of the theory. This paper tries to expand the late Qing Social Fiction towards"the show for the vitality and complexity," to explore the many dimensions of thought and deepness.Considering The value of Late Qing and early Chinese republic times'social fiction (especial in the artistic value) is not big, this paper has no intention of adhering to "the value of evaluation" but entering the "value to read" areas : that is, through the intensive reading of the works can we find value of works, in particular, one of the cultural and aesthetic sense behind the paper. As is pointed out a scholar: "The object itself is not sufficient to decide the value of'study', and it is possible for the object to achieve some values under unique visions." The key is whether researchers have unique talents and the force of theory penetration.Late Qing social fiction has many research finding. On the contrary, the study of short fiction seems particularly weak.
