Samuel Barber ,the representation character of Neo-Romanticism ,is a talentcomposers in American in 20th century .His piano solo work------《Piano Sonata》Op.26,is one of the most classic piano sonatas in that period .This work finished in 1949.It was the only piano sonata barber had composed ,which represents Barber's mature period style of creation and the technique characteristic.This paper is about the in-depth theory analysis and researching how to play this sonata perfectly through the experience of practicing and professor's teaching .It consists of three chapters .Chapter One introduces Barber's life,compositional works and his appraisement .Chapter Two researches Barber's musical style .it includes three parts. First, introduce Barber's all music works and assort them in different periods. Second, put Barber's style into the background of the development of the 20th century's world musical style and summarize Barber's Neo-Romanticism musical style .Third, analyze the lyricism of Barber's works ,and indicates his important position in modern music development as well as the particular function and research value of his piano pieces. Chapter Three labors《piano sonata》Op.26.It includes four parts .First, introduce the background of this sonata .Second , analyze Texture and Form Structure of this sonata ,and draw the logical manner of the structure of this work .Third, analyze every movement particularity ,and make a thorough summary on the essential factors of composition :theme ,harmony ,counterpoint ,mode andkey......Fourth, commentate the points and style of this work's performance. Thispaper attempts through particular research and analysis ,in a way of combining theory and practice ,to make a more comprehensive,integrated,systemic visage of this piano sonata ,for the purpose of giving some advice and reference to the other executants for the future.
