Unlike the traditional linear narrative style, using "The Archaeology of Knowledge," a different approach to re-discuss and organize the development of Chinese contemporary art history and the clues are the basic methodology of this paper. This paper adopts the concept of building units of ideas (Unit Ideas) to write and organize. In the paper, through reading of large numbers of documents and performing specific social practices at the early stage of the research, the author extracts the "audience" and "the West" as the paper's two themes. It should be noted that, the two basic elements, the "audience" and "the West", which always accompany the development of Chinese contemporary art, the relationship between them is not a simple relationship of extension and progression. They are also in the mutual mapping, overlapping relationship with each other's independent existence. These two words independently point out the paths or angles of the development of contemporary art.As the first part of the "Chinese Contemporary Art Keywords Study Visits program", this thesis disentangles the roles and the ways of influence of the "audience" and "the West" through comparing and analyzing the backgrounds of different time periods and specific cases. Moreover, this thesis also attempts to show that the"audience", as a kind of art judgment standard, as decades of time change, the changes of its status and its main body have taken place and the Impacts on Chinese contemporary art of the West in the 80's...
