Entering the new era, China has emerged a group of religious writers. With the development of industrial society, the rapid development of market economy promoted the national wealth of material interests, but it led to the disintegration of values and belief systems in the national spirit, too. Therefore people began to separate from the integrative values, and searched for their habitable spiritual home. After the era that religion was forced to abandon, people found it didn't decline in fact, but it was influencing the common people of industrialized era with a unique cultural psychology.Religion took its place in the trend of Chinese Literature in the 20th century. We could see a group of writers closely related to religious culture, whose literary works had a relationship with religion more or less. Chinese modern writers accepted religious culture, but they paid little attention to religious customs or essentialism of religion. Instead they valued on the life of religious sentiment and of ultimate value, devoting their passion to the practical significance of religion beyond the real life and real society. The combination of religious culture and literature in the new era is often manifested as a strong lyrical and profound metaphor, having tragic noble and sorrow spirit movement of Islam; simple weak quiet Buddhist spiritual writing; and Confucian culture of more emphasis on family ethics and pragmatic utilitarian. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part uses the independent religious discourse to sense the nature of religion, and then discusses the relationship between religion and literature. The second part hackles modern Chinese writers' thinking for religious culture. The third part studies religious literature temperament of contemporary writers from a micro point. It puts special emphasis on the interpretation of works and on their unique experience in the analysis of different religious cultural characteristics of each writer. The fourth part studies the religious culture as literature background of contemporary literature from a macro point. New literature is full of the fashion of free thought, no depth and no emotion. How does literature break the restriction in time of lust and reposition in ideology and aesthetic appreciation? That is the responsibility of the literature in new era.The combination of religious culture and literature in the new era is often manifested as a strong lyrical and profound metaphor, having tragic noble and sorrow spirit movement of Islam; simple weak quiet Buddhist spiritual writing; and Confucian culture of more emphasis on family ethics and pragmatic utilitarian.
