Medieval Europe is the age of Christianity.From the countryside to the city,social life is dominated by Christianity.The religious life of citizens is an important part of urban life.It not only reflects the influence of religion on urban society,but also reflects the understanding of belief and the attitude of Church of the civil class.This paper takes Britain in the 15 th century as an example,starting from the development of the city and the current situation of the church,analyzes the living conditions of the civil class from different aspects such as sermons,festivals,processions and long-distance pilgrimages,and reveals the community consciousness,national consciousness and religious thought sprouting and its influence revealed by the urban life of England at the end of the middle ages.The main body of the article is divided into three chapters.Among them,the first chapter combs the development of the city and the status quo of the church in the late Middle Ages.After a hundred years of war and the black death,the urban economy of Britain recovered in the 15 th century,and the strength of the civil class continued to develop,releasing energy in the cooperation and conflict with the church.The second chapter analyzes the changes of the religious life of the British civil class in the 15 th century from the aspects of sermons,processions and pilgrimages.Sermon is an important part of religious life in the city.The celebrations and processions show the changes of the economic strength of the city.Pilgrimage is the concentration and migration of religious life in the city.These religious activities add a lot of religious factors and pleasant colors to the dull life of the citizens.The third chapter analyzes the significance of religious life in English cities in the 15 th century.In the long-term religious life,the citizens gradually formed the community consciousness,gestated the national and national concepts,and also gestated the new ideas of religious reform.With the increasing corruption of the clergy,the contradiction between the church,the city and the nation-state became more acute.When Henry VIII broke with the Pope,the social conditions of the religious reform were mature.
