The Peifu Village Powers Of Narrative Research

Within 30-odd years since writing fiction , Li Peifu has always paid so much attention to his hometown , the center plain of Henan, as well as the peasants living there. The peasants'birth, aging, sickness, death, sweets and bitters lead Li Peifu put his brushwork into the vast country. The relationship between earth and people became the main subject in his art world. Keeping away from suffering, folk-custom and other country lifestyle, Li Peifu selected power relations at the grassroots level as his writing object, which is the most expressive, cohesive picture of rural life. Through the writing of village power, Li Peifu discerned the mystery of political culture of the Central Plains, and even the traditional political culture of China. Also, he revealed the cause of peasants'servility fully and profoundly.This dissertation, by which I dedicate myself to the study on the village power in Li Peifu's novels, are arranged in four parts.The first part: the sociocultural context of village power. As a traditional following idea, official-oriented thoughts prompt village people to scramble for power. Their motivation to live is standing out among their fellows or bringing prestige and honour to their families and clansmen. What's more, common people's inadequate personality provide the underlying basis for authority's authoritarian rule. Their blindness and weakness are activators that give a new birth of feudal rule in new historical context.The second part: the constructive process of village power. To village cadres, the tactful strategy of social exchange with superiors, the cruel reign to the common people, the practice principle of self-discipline, are all effective means of establishing absolute authority. In writing of revealing the secrets of the constructive process of village power, Li Peifu discover the cultural driving motivation under the camouflage of humanity, moral and capability , without depicting an officialdom farce that officials get the positions with money, or fawn.The third part: people in village power structure. Village cadres are the constructor of village power structure. Otherwise, normal human nature is warped by desires for power. Under the shackles of power, they lose their morality thoroughly. As the accomplices and slaves, mass people try to move toward village authorities, and are enslaved unaware of it.The fourth part: values and limitations of Li Peifu's writing about village power. Li Peifu's works beyonded these officialdom fictions since 1990s, and expressed his view on regional culture of center plain. However, the biased views of city civilization caused by land-complex, the drawbacks of female images in village power structure, are obstacles that can not be ignored in his way to the artistic heights.
