| Since the 1990s, China has undergone the transition period from planned economic system to market economic system. it has become a trend to write about metropolitan life.1970s' generation of writers are undoubtedly the most potential in urban life writing because the special life and living environment make them unfamiliar with rural China, as well as unconnected with history, traditional belief and values. Metropolis is the sole source for their writings and imagination. The quality of text they have given to metropolis is a new challenge to the old system of literary theories. This thesis is trying to generalize and analyze the status of 1970s' generation of metropolitan writings following the tread of time, and examine the influence 1990s' cultural industrialization under the dominance of popular culture has on the writings of 1970s' generation from historical perspective and give some new interpretations, on which this thesis attempts to make clear the literary development of the 1970s' generation, at the same time, giving proper place to metropolitan writings. Thus, this thesis is divided into the following five parts:The part of introduction is mainly a brief introduction and summary of the research subjects---1970s'generation and its metropolitan writings, displaying the outline of the whole subjects. Besides, there's a generalization of monographs involved in the related research theories and current research status, some simple comments as well. Moreover, a summary of research perspective methods and purpose are also given.The first chapter is a brief summary of writing status of 1970s' generation under the influence of such factors as the established economical system, the prevailing popular culture and consuming trend, literary transition to industrialization and so on. Therefore, the first chapter is composed of 2 parts, of which the first part is the definition of the rise of metropolitan culture and its content, and a generation of the popular culture with urban culture as its core and characterization and the realistic basis for its popularity, that is, the formation of the consumption from kind of every life behavior to a cultural form.The second chapter is primarily an analysis of various aspects and angles of the 1970s' generation writings about urban living including the interpretation of such literary events as Wei Hui and Mian Mian's writings, the analysis of the up and down of web writing by the 1970s'generation and in particular selecting the writings of 3 representatives of 1970s'generation writers---Zhu Wenying, Xu Zechen and Dai Lai to convey close textual reading.The third chapter focuses on the overview of the transformation and convergence of urban writing by the 1970s' generation. Either the diversification of writers under the interference of market force or the transformation and convergence under the natural growth is a proof of continuous self-promotion of the 1970s'generation writers.The conclusion is a further summary and advancement of urban writings based on the whole text. Getting of the initial perplexity and confusion and with the return of writers'awareness of mission, the 1970s'generation of writers is well on their way forward. It's a key element in urban writings that how a spiritual home can be firmly established between the practical life experience and fictional imagination. |
