Man-Tungusic phonetic phenomenon of vowel harmony is one of the common and widespread features of Altaic languages, according to the Chinese traditional philosophy thought of "Yin-Yang", the vowels were misclassified into positive vowels, negative vowels and neutral vowels and described several types of the vowel harmony. It is unscientific because it lacks the theoretical support of modern linguistics, and cannot fully explain the reasons of vowel harmony. This paper discusses the phenomenon of vowel harmony from the general phonetic point of view, respectively lists the vowel harmony of three languages of Manchu and two languages of Tungus. This paper also summarizes the vowel harmony laws into completely harmony and partial harmony. Partial harmony includes same-type harmony and semi-harmony. The paper discusses the vowel harmony's usages on word-building and grammar detailedly. In the end the paper illustrates reasons why the laws of vowel harmony gradually become disappeared.
