According to the basic hypothesis proposed by modern cognitive linguists that the structure of language is not autonomous, we are convinced that the individual's potential cognitive ability and habit play a vital part in the structuring of language. Therefore, by the application of this cognitive model derived from the individual's everyday experience to analyze certain language phenomenon, we are able to recognize better the essence that lies behind the surface. From our daily experiences, it happens to coincide that when looking at parody, we will be attracted by the deviated part instantly, which collides with the original cognitive model. Thus the deviated part becomes the salience. Based on the cognitive perspective, especially from the perspective of Figure-Ground theory, this research finds that the effect of parody is through the activation of Figure-Ground cognitive model. To be brief, the deviation makes the deviated part become the marked figure with the most cognitive expectant value via the substitution of the partial language element in a certain expression, thus arousing the immediate and remarkable salience; while the original norm of expression becomes the ground, thus providing the deviated part with a favorable reference point. Research on the salience of parodied part contributes to the recognition of the dominant theme, which pushes the communication forward successfully.
