The totality ideology enjoyed an important state not only in his History and Class Consciousness but also in his ideological theory, and it was his major ideological theory. It mainly originated from Hegel and its totality view was based on the background of the totality concept of Hegel's theory. Lukacs regarded the totality as the core of Marxist methodology; he emphasized that the totality is the main content of the proletariat awareness and the core of the proletarian consciousness is"the desire for the totality"; he attacked the materialization consciousness as the opposite of the totality consciousness. As a revolutionary activist, Lukacs did not stop his research on totality at the theoretical level; in the contrary, he also made in-depth understanding from a practical point of view: Lukacs emphasized the total historical dimension and stressed that the core contain of totality principle is the diachronism; and the totality principle is to comprehensively understand the social life; rather than separately understand the relationship between as well as the significance of the society and individual, we shall understood them as a whole; we shall regard person as a totality to achieve the comprehensive and overall development and pursue the unity of theory and practice.
