Georg Lukacs is a famous ideologist of Hungary in 20th century, he also has a good reputation for international theorist. As the inaugurator of "Western Maxism", Lukacs'thoughts attract great attention, especially his work History and Class Consciousness triggered off an enormous respond from home and abroad, even the reaction has been mixed. The ideology of totality is the key part of his theory. After combining the concept of Hegel's Identity and Web's Totality, Lukacs proposed the new concept of totality and developed a complete set of theory which focus on the proletariat future and studies subject and object connect and interact with one another. He tried to prompt the studies on the relationship between subject and object instead of emperical researches on nature and society of Maxism. Lukacs'totality considered the society as the combination of interaction and intermediary aspects, so as to connect unrelated incidents with totality. His opinion gave rise to more than half a century of argument about the essence of Maxism and the nature of Western Marxism. Therefore, a phenomenon appeared in the academia that most of us think totality when we think Lukacs. This paper analyzed the totality theory of Lukacs, discusses three questions about totality and evaluate the Lukacs'totality system. This paper has four chapters except preface and conclusion. The chapter one introduces the basic meaning of totality. The chapter two studies the origin and features of totality. The chapter three deals with the concrete contents of totality. At last, a general assessment is given in the chapter four.
