Ever since 1990s, domestic subaltern problems have gradually come into public view with deepening modernization process and intensifying social polarization. The reflection of subaltern state of existence and their demand is considered as a major feature of New Documentary Movement. Singers on the tramp, as a proportionable part of subaltern, play the lead both in Floating, an independent documentary, and in Go! Eastern Angel,a mass media reality program. Then comes the question, how do Floating and Go!Eastern Angel present singers on the tramp? Does different power build different relationship between subaltern and the camera? This thesis, with a close recurrence, analysis and comparison of Floating and Go! Eastern Angel, finds the subaltern more a represented object than one with integral subjectivity in the mass media vision, and that Floating provides a sincere text and an equal angle of view, which overturns the representation of Go!Eastern Angel. Still the subaltern are struggling to make themselves heard in both texts. This thesis, as a result, both enriches the domestic subaltern studies with plenty of specific experience, and affirms that New Documentary Movement has successfully pushed the subaltern interest and demand into historic vision.
