As an important part of our traditional culture, residential culture had developed to a higher level by Ming and Qing dynasty through thousands of years'development. Furnishings had formularized stylized and formed specific styles and patterns. Its particular design ideas and colorful furnishings reflect vivid national characters and profound cultural connotation. Nowadays, more and more attention is being paid to humanity value of furnishings. To look into furnishing art of our traditional dwellings is of significance to promote cultural connotation of our interior design.This thesis is based on research on the furnishing of Ming and Qing dynasty and acknowledgement of basic condition of furnishing, analyzes the basic patterns of furnishing, researches various techniques of interior furnishing design and summarizes particular interior furnishing features of Ming and Qing dynasty:harmonious yet different interior furnishing; more attention is paid to integrity; and the tendency of aesthetics of citizen class. Though the outer forms of expression of these features are colorful, the inner deep Chinese traditional culture is the common cornerstone of these features, which shows traditional spirit of "Nature and Man in One" "agreeableness" and reflects ethics of traditional hierarchy. Different folk customs, folk faith and geomancy together affect the interior furnishing of civil residency of Ming and Qing Dynasty. The habits and customs, aesthetic pursuit, value orientation and level of techniques are passed through every room and show the life, ideas and passions. These precious spiritual wealth of traditional interior furnishing should be inherited, but in a critical way. We should promote its advantages and abandon those ideas not conforming to social development, with dynamic ideas treating the past, present and the future.
