What is Enlightenment?"Enlightenment means first the courage to re-create oneself."For Chinese women, enlightenment means coming out from the constraints of traditional culture, from the fixed social and cultural roles of"virtuous wife , good mother and daughter-in-law with filial piety", which the male-centered culture assigned to woman, and remodeling a lovely woman who has her love and hate, desire and request, blood and flesh, a woman who is independent in finances, free in thought and perfect in personality. In 20th century, Chinese women experienced two climax of enlightenment: one is in 54 times, the main driving force is the New Culture Movement; the other is in the late eighties to nineties, the main driving force is Western Feminism. If we say that in 54 times, for a woman who want to grow an independent person, the main obstacles is the social and culture system(external constraints); then, in new era, the main barriers is the internal limitation in her heart, which is the traditional culture embeded in female's soul (internal limitation). In other words, for contemporary Chinese women, the greatest obstacle to enlightenment is not the outside social system, but the barriers in their heart, the sediments of traditional culture. This thesis selects the related texts from the fictions created by female writers in new era which relate extramarital affairs, and study the situation of women's enlightenment and argues above-mentioned view. These five dimensions are: 1. What is love; 2. moral limitation and inner constraints 3. Running away and going home·complete and incomplete; 4. Body·the capital of sex·self-salvation ; 5. Love·Marriage·sex: to destroy or coexsit in entanglement. Through the study of these five dimensions, attributed to three main dimensions of female inner barriers: 1. love astray; 2. the trap of Male Discourse; 3. the paradox of enlightenment and anti-enlightenment. The difficulty of crossing the barriers in women's heart, that is where the difficulty of female enlightenment. The first chapter, what is love. This chapter, through the interpreting of four works, Love, can not forget and No Words, the Body of No Name and Female Cadre, elaborates such a view: opening the beautiful veil of the love described by female writers , we find that the love in their works is a pathological love——a unilateral pay and sacrifice. No matter woman sacrifices for man, or man sacrifices for woman, neither is true love which is based on equlity and freedom, but a pathological love based on Rule-relationship-mobel. In this regard, This subversion has no meaning in the construction of ultimate value, but only replaces one's sacrifice with the-other's. True love is a free combination between two independent individuals, but our definition of love is sick, whose substance is "Abuse dependence."Chapter II, moral limitations and inner constraints: the Oriental woman and Water gone with the sky, by interpreting the two works to explore the moral limitations and inner constraints of women on the road to enlightenment.Chapter III, Running away and going home ? complete and incomplete: White vegetables and Compete in the Street, by interpreting the two works to explore the cultural psychology for female on enlightenment path. In this chapter, to interpret that the so-called full-time wife is not anything but a tool which male culture appionted to her, an activity harem of marginal areas or areas of boudoir and hou. For full-time wife, the whole disconsolation lies in the loss of herself, of the whole world, and her life in family——this "decent prison" wasted day by day.Chapter IV, the body ? the capital of sex ? self-salvation: through five texts, The Century on the hill, A kind of emotion , Cheers with the past, Hungry daughter, Shanghai Baby, to explore the paradox when female body acts as sex capital and the trap of patriarchal dicourse which female writers encounter when they creat works. The paradox is that the starting point is to redeem the body, but it causes the degradation of the soul. In relevant text, female writers show much submission to patriarchal culture, language and discourse, not subversion to the classic description discourse of female by male writers who have strong sense of male-power. The thing what female writers did is anti-enlightenment, like many male writers did.Chapter V, love ? marriage ? sex: to destroy or coexsit in entanglement. Free confession, No Rain City, Moral Song, The years, like a Song, Extensive Love Letter, by the interpreation of these five classic works to research the relations of love, marriage and sex, and the spiritual weaknesses of women refracted on the three tangles, that is, the barrier point of enlightenment. The paradox of women's consciousness lies in that they long for marriage while critisize it, pursuit freedom but can not completely cut off the institution rope of marriage. For chinese women who have been eroded by the male-centered culture for thousands of years, during the process of escaping from the traditional gender roles, the biggest obstacle which they encounter is not the external social system, but the barriers in their hearts. That is the behavior norms which traditional culture interlized into women's hearts. In other words, the biggest obsracle is the sedimentary-deposits of statute of the traditional culture in female heart. As cancer cells invade the health body and open generally spread throughout the body as roses, the statute of the traditional patriarchal culture have been infiltrated into women's consciousness and spreaded throughout every channels of theirs. To strip them, to get a woman who is healthy, independent and full of vitality, female should be subject to a fire regeneration like a phoenix reborn from the ashes. |
