Tang And Five Dynasties Surname Study

Name is a symbol of the blood, family and social status, it also play a special role in the realm of community and politics. Surnames develop and evolve constantly which enrich the Chinese family name, reflect the prosperity and decline of dynasties, even more give an expression of the history of ethnic relations and integration. Generally, the names are stable considerably, on the contrary, it becomes a social phenomenon which names will be change under certain historical conditions. There was already the change of surname phenomenon banking early in the Pre-Qin period, which had been increased commonly during Qin-Han Dynasty. When the wheels of the history drived to Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties, changes of the surname exploded within a broad-scale and wide spectrum, which bring a huge impact towards later generations. Senior scholars have explored in the areas and made some achievements, Unfortunately, the research in the surname changed of the Tang and Five Dynasties is still rare. In this context, we devote our numerous energy on the surname of the Tang and Five Dynasties. We illustrate further the social reasons and the influence in this period and even later generations of the formation of surname alterred by carry out a statistical analysis, furthermore, reveal its effect on some important aspects of society of the Tang and Five Dynasties.In our work, we summarized the social role and historical influence within the changes of surname of the Tang and Five periods at base on analyzing their categories. Full-text is divided into five parts, as follows:ChapterⅠ:Introduction. The academic significance of the topics and the research status were mainly analyzed and then the study methods were proposed.ChapterⅡ:The classification of surname changed in the Tang and Five Dynasties period. In my opinpion, the surname category mainly depend on six reasons as follow: bestowed by emperor, avoid a taboo with the emperor, as a result of some incident, adapting to the circumstance, adoption or other reasons. Furthermore, each type of surname and its related problems were analyzed. There are more inks and the largest component spending on the gift from emperor surname, due to it's the focal point in this chapter.ChapterⅢ:The social causes of the change surname climate formation. The glory of ancestors, evasive, the trend of national integration and the in-depth impact of the filial piety in Confucianism etc. all are the origin of change surname climate formation before the Tang and Five Dynasties. Above reasons have been affected the Tang and Five Dynasties period, and continue developing.ChapterⅣ:The social function of the change surname in the period of Tang and Five Dynasties. It is the key part of this thesis. By above-mentioned discussion, we have summarized the effect in social of the alterred surname at Tang and Five, such as acquiring the hearts, defending the predominant, promoting the integration, stabilizing the community, homologous, heterologous and so on. Meanwhile, the features of the Tang and Five surname manifestd as follow, range expansion, style diversification, purposes multiple, relative stability and absolute instability. The vast scale and scope of the surname rebellion in the Tang and Five Dynasties has a gross impact on its later generations, mainly displays on gift from emperor, national integration, taboo etc.ChapterⅤ:Conclusion.
