China's long-time separatist regime situation was put an end after Yang Jinan, Emperor Sui Won completed his unity. However, the Koryo Regime, which was sitated in Northeast China at that time, gradually became powerful and prosperous. It constantly sent troops to invade the border areas along Liaodong Island. People there were robbed and disturbed. Thus the united Sui government as well as the later rulers of Tang Dynasty launched wars to conquer it. At last, Koryo was defeated and died out. The conquering wars lasted for two dynasties and the causes of them were complex. Some of them started for similar purpose, others were for different reasons. They also produced great influences on Northeast Asia. The arguments in this paper mainly focus on the launching causes and the influences on basis of comparative study of the analysis by scholars home and abroad so that the nature of the causes and the influences would be explored.Part one Brief introduction to the warsIt has been recorded that the two emperors in Sui Dynasty failed to defeat Koryo, while Emperor Tai Zong and Emperor Gao Zong in Tang Dynasty accomplished in the conquest. The causes and influences of the wars have been briefly evaluated though the nature of the wars has not been completely made clear. However, the exiting records at least provide guidance for the study of the social situation at that time.Part two Discussion about the causes of the warsThe causes explored herein include: the situations in China and Koryo lead to the wars; the successive conquering in the two dynasties are for the same aim; the motives of China's emperors are also one of the causes. The author will prove a specific viewpoint about the causes systematically according to the historical materialism of Marxism.Part three Discussion about the influencesWith a comparative analysis of the references from scholars in different times, a specific viewpoint about the nature of the wars and status of Koryo will be demonstrated in this part. That is Koryo was in fact a political group with real power. It had independent politics, foreign affairs and its own administrative institutes as well as military forces. The wars were not for unity or separation, but were conflicts between two political entities. The wars influenced not only the political set up on Korean Peninsular, but also the development of China's dynasties. Therefore, an over-all point of view about the wars should be made to avoid lopsided conclusions.Part four ConclusionThe whole paper is concluded and an integrated judgment will be made in this part. The wars between China and Koryo are not the ambition displays of emperors and they can not be initiated by only one side. Dynasties of Sui and Tang treated Koryo as a part in their world and wanted to control it, while Koryo aimed at its survival and a better development. Both sides should be responsible for the wars. The national benefit determined the relations between the two entities. Though Koryo died out, it has brought great influences afterwards.
