Republican Period is China's silk art history important stage of development full of opportunities and the ups and downs. during this period ,silk industry is the most active among the areas south of the Yangtze River, where not only silk has a profound cultural accumulation, the accumulation of weaving technology and high-end silk art heritage, and also has a unique good timing, geographical convenience and good human relations. Therefore, the silk art in areas south of the Yangtze River develops unprecedentedly during Republican Period. However, because of the relatively lag in technology, the lack of design philosophy, the exploitation of foreign capitalists and other reasons, the silk art development can not plain sailing, but full of confusion and dilemmas.In this paper, the object of study is silk art in areas south of the Yangtze River (i.e., Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai region) during Republican Period. It describes silk thread to the development of art by silk art technology and art research of art silk, the introduction of advanced technologies and the use of new raw materials, the development of different species, the improvement of the pattern and the modern design concept in silk design patterns, the literature a case study and the interpretation of the image data, and on this basis, through further analysis it brings forward an opinion that the major driving forces of silk art in areas south of the Yangtze River during Republican Period is the main changes proposed by the aesthetic and the sublimation of national identity.
