Since the founding of New China, Artists began to reform traditional Chinese Paintings nationally for responding to the goal of serving for people. At that time, Songyan QIAN, a famous painter, created his pastoral landscape paintings inthe south of the Yangtze River. Taking the unique regional culture as an object, Songyan QIAN makes his painting be known for their features and artistic appeal extremely. In QIAN’ s eyes, tradition is painting’s foundation, times is guide and whether it can serve people or not is a standard to judge its value. So he always adheres to them in the process of painting. Songyan QIAN’s pastoral landscape paintings inthe south of the Yangtze River presents New China’s flourishing scene. Thus, it caters to both times and people’s eyes for beauty. Above from that, the skilled composition of bird’s-eye view makes them grand, the use of fibrillation pen to draw mountains and trees makes lines vigorous and the bold use of watercolor and folk art’s color idea makes them bright. Overall, pastoral landscape paintings inthe south of the Yangtze River makes Songyan QIAN be a famous artist and leads the reform of landscape painting to a new step. It is a good example to combine Chinese landscape painting and modern life and makes a good start for future landscape painting’s reform and innovation.
