"Study nature, Express inspiration" is a central theory in Chinese classical Art, and is also a fundamental belief in Japanese Art as well. Abiding by this theory and practicing it has gradually become a central focus of my study of Chinese Art. I enjoy painting cats, and in order to put "Study nature" in practice, I observed and sketched many cats in nature. During the sketching process, I noticed a "heavy and hard" stone-like impression carried by the cats' various postures - sitting, lying prone, or curled up like a ball and sleeping, and began to want to express it. Then, in order to further develop my inspirations, I studied Japanese and Chinese paintings of cats. As I grope towards developing my own way of painting cats, I feel like I am beginning to understand the essence of "inspiration". |
