Polytonality is a composition techniques emerging in the twenty-first century, french composer Darius Milhaud developed it and make it systematically.This thesis analyzed several representative work of milhaud, summarized the songs pattern of polytonality music,and its pitch materials and the way of exposition and development.Meanwhile,this thesis researched the life and thought of Milhaud,commented the cause of polytonality music of Milhaud.The concept of"pivot chord"in this article explains , from both vertical and horizontal directions ,how polytonality exposition and development in work,and,formulates the mode of polytonality music consequently.This article not only sums up the law of pitch pattern at the surface, but also reasonably analyses the connection between inherent tonality . It is expected to provide a effective point of reference in analysis of polytonality music.
