On Dominate The Root Of The Logic Of Logic And Checks And Balances

It is a widely discussed topic by both of Chinese and western scholars for a long time that the reason for the unification in ancient China while the"balance of power"repeatedly appeared in the early Modern Europe, which mainly includes the theory of"balance of power"and the ideal of"Grand Unification"held by Chinese scholars. The theory of"balance of power"can't explain the unification in ancient China perfectly, while the"Grand Unification"pays too much attention to the cultural factor, which can not make an explanation to the common facts existed in both periods of history. In recent years, the monograph"War and State Formation in Ancient China and Early Modern Europe"by Victoria Tin-bor Hui applies for a dynamic theory of international politics, which raised wide public concerns. This thesis summed up the basic assumption and the model of logic of her theory. On the basis of acceptance of mass of her theory, the writer raised some questions. The main standpoint of my thesis is that the differences between the two economic models and religions are the most important cause that the logic of domination prevails in Chinese Warring States Period while the logic of balancing dominates in early Modern Europe. To put it more specifically, the relation of production on the basis of geographical conditions determines the social status of respective mainstays of the economy, which improves the different classification of stratum of that economic model. The different form of stratums made a dominant effect on the constitution and balance of power of political structure., which gave birth to the two fundamental actions of states—"self-strengthening reforms and self-weakening expedients"; The religious and secular factors play a very important role in the western history throughout, which strongly stands the realization of the logic of balancing in the western history while the religion in ancient China never formed an independent power which caused the realization of the logic of domination.
