The abolition of Corporal Punishment by Emperor Wen of Han has extremely important meaning in Chinese legal history. He abolished the Corporal Punishment that last two thousand years in the form of law for the first time. This event ended the ancient Chinese penalty from the brutal cruelty towards the civilization. The event that Emperor Wen of Han abolished Corporal Punishment System has its historical inevitability. The legal thoughts of rulers of the early Han, the economic development requirements, and the growing experience of the Emperor Wen of Han, are all the catalyzers of the event that Emperor Wen of Han abolished the Corporal Punishment. And Ti Ying Petition was the blasting fuse of the event. Different interest groups hold different viewpoints towards the abolition of Corporal Punishment System by Emperor Wen of Han. They even argued over the existence of the Corporal Punishment. However, because the abolition of the Corporal Punishment is progressive, comply with public opinions, conform to the law of historical development. Therefore, the Corporal Punishment System was not reused again. The success of historical experience of the abolition of Corporal Punishment System by Emperor Wen of Han provides beneficial enlightenment to the reform of contemporary Penalty System in China, especially the reform of Death Penalty System and Imprisonment System.lt laid the historical foundation of contemporary China’s "Governing the Country according to Law", "Building a Harmonious Society".
