On Political Compromise In International Relations

Peace and development are two main themes of our era. There exists a dialectical relationship between them:peace provides a good environment for development promoting the further development; meanwhile, development provides a material basis for peace, to further safeguard peace. However, according to marxist philosophy of struggle, it is concluded that "there will be a struggle as long as there is a man". That is to say, as long as there is a man, there will be conflicts of interest. As a result, how do we resolve the contradiction and conflict? From the perspective of the long river of human history development, we find that there are two ways to solve the conflict and contradiction including peace and violence. The way of solving conflicts by violence is to use weapon while the peaceful ways include different kinds such as negotiation, mediation, discussion and so on. We call these peaceful ways compromise. In fact, in order to live, everyone of us should compromise. It is common to compromise to opponent, environment even ourselves. Then apply the compromise with politics is political compromise, which is common in political lives. Especially in today’s international relationship, political compromise get wide ratification by its peaceful ways. This essay consists of four chapters. The first chapter is introduction part, and the second chapter makes a detailed exposition of political compromise. This chapter consists of two sections. The first section mainly states the connotation of compromise and rectificates the name of compromise, which distinguish cowardliness, betrayal from compromise. The second section mainly analyze the connotation and feature of political compromise, which is the emphasis. Secondly, It mainly analyze three features of political compromise:(1) The interest conflict is the basis and premise of political compromise. (2) Political compromise has principles. First one is voluntary principle; The second one is the principle of tolerance. The third one is mutual principle. (3) The unification of instrumental and spiritual value. The third chapter, that can be divided into two parts,makes a analysis of the rationality of polital compromise. The first part mainly analyze the theoretical basis of political compromise. The theory analysis consists of following several aspects:Firstly, for the limitation of cognition, people not only admit the power of the opponent, but also restrain their selfish desire. Then, the disadvantages of extreme rationality. For extreme rationality will make people trap in the result of non-rationality, rational compromise come out. Human is not perfect, while the purpose of the politics is to lead people to pursue better result. In order to make human nature perfect, people have to compromise. The second part analyzes the possibility of realizing political compromise. The most important one is peace and development. Nowadays, people all look forward to peace, so this has provided possibility for political compromise. Next one is economic globalization. With the gradual development, the international division of labour becomes more amd more clear and different countries rely on each other. Cooperation has become popular. In order to make sure the benefits of cooperation, different countries must compromise each other. At last, the calculation of the cost promote the realization of political compromise. The calculation of the cost has two parts. One is the calculation of the benefits, the other is the fear of nuclear war.The above calculation make political compromise possible. The fourth chapter mainly analyze the political compromise of different country relationship in the new age. It include two parts. The first part mainly analyze the compromise between USA and Russia in the cold war. The conclusion is that political compromise is not unlimited concession. In the contrary, political compromise is limited. The second part makes an analysis of the compromise between USA and Russia in Syria’s chemical war in 2013. It is proves that political compromise is indeed a good choice for win-win and solving international conflicts. The above essay tells that political compromise win wide recognition of international society by its unique advantages. Due to the development of globalization, political compromise will play a more and more important role in solving international conflicts.
