To become a member of EU is a basic state policy of Turkey, while the EU linked the Turkey’s EU accession issues to the Kurdish problem, so the Kurdish problem became one of the main obstacles to Turkey’s EU accession process. The main reason is there are some cognitive differences about Kurdish problem: The EU considers the Kurdish problem as a minority issue, and thinks that Turkey have committed some errors in democracy and human rights, which does not meet the Copenhagen criteria of EU; Turkey, under the guidance of Kemalism, treats the Kurdish problem as a national security issue. Obviously, the extreme nationalism concept has become the crux of the Kurdish problem in Turkey. Therefore, it needs joint efforts of Turkey and EU to solve the Kurdish problem.Turkey needs to change the concept and find a balance between the inheritance of Kemalism and the EU accession criteria, namely, to find a balance between protecting national security and unity and the protection of minority rights, which is the key to solve the Kurdish problem, and it is also a necessary condition for Turkey’s EU accession. EU needs continue to put pressure on Turkey and guide Turkey actively in Turkey’s accession process. Only addressing the Kurdish problem properly in the interaction between Turkey and EU, can Turkey join the EU successfully.
