International relations always focus on the great powers and their interactions. However, small states are the majority in the international society.Looking back the history, different small states have different destinies, some has been gone, some has survived thanks to their wisdom. The differences between small states’ foreign strategies shape the different destinies of small states in a way.For arguing this question, this thesis pays attention on small states’ foreign strategies.Small states’ foreign strategies could be divided into three types:Strategy of Resistance, Strategy of Balancing, Strategy of Accommodation. They all have exclusive definition and features and contain different specific policies as their representation.Furthermore, this thesis tries to find the factors which will influence small states’ choices.Five factors are found which are National Interests,National Power,History,Geography and the Participants of the Region. All these five factors could influence the small states’ choices. Some factors could be the decisive factor for the small states’ foreign strategies.Based on the study above, this thesis analyzes the Mongolia’s foreign policies and strategies and digs deep the influencing factors of Mongolia’s choices.Since the founding of Mongolia, its’ foreign policies and strategies change a lot.All three types of strategies could be observed in Mongolia’s diplomacy, from the strategy of resistance towards the United States and the strategy of accommodation towards Soviet Union to the strategy of balancing towards all great powers such as the United States,Russia and China.During this transformation, national interests and powers, history, geography and participants of the region all work. So,based on review of Mongolia’s foreign policies, this part supports the theory argued in the preceding part through the analysis of the influencing factors of Mongolia’s foreign policies.
