The disastrous aftermath of climate change will probably threaten the peace and security of international community. Due to their unique characteristics in natural condition and social environment, Small Island Developing States bear before other states the brunt of climate change; the influential power of climate change is unbalanced to different states or regions in international community, but whether the international community can keep the global temperature within a reasonable extent is a life-and-death question for Small Island Developing States. The paper analyses the requisitions and proposals of Small Island Developing States in adapting to environmental vulnerability, facing up to economy and trade challenge, realizing national sustainable development and developing national recuperative ability. The paper concludes measures and actions taken by Small Island Developing States in order to deal with problems such as sea level rise, climate disasters, waste material, maritime resources and freshwater shortage. Taking loss and damage negotiation and adaption subject as examples, this paper explains the reasons why Small Island Developing States have changed their negotiation stance. Small Island Developing States, though belong to developing states group, have distinct security and interest demands in climate change negotiation; the existing emission pattern and administration system’s alternation and transformation also make contribution to Small Island Developing States’ transition. In the final part the paper analyses the Small Island Developing States’ diplomatic circumstances, developing predicaments and strategic options and puts forward suggestions for Small Island Developing States to exert more extensive influential power in climate change negotiation.
