The Study Purpose With the approach of information economy in the world, the status of information industry has ascended to strategic industry from groundwork domain. As the typical representative and important part of information industry, communications industry is playing more and more important role in China's national economy. Therefore, it is crucial to develop communications industry for China's future international economic status. The purpose of the thesis is to discuss how to cultivate the international competitiveness of China's communications industry. The Study MethodBased on abundant practice review, Porter's theory of national competitive advantage provides an entire series of method and knowledge structure to analyze competition behavior of industries and enterprises. By using this theory, the thesis resorts to factor analysis to discuss the topic-how to build up China's "diamond "system for communications industry. Using both normative and positive analysis, the thesis represents how to cultivate the relative international competitiveness of China's communications industry from the perspective of Porter's theory on the basis of the present situation of this industry.The Study Conclusion The main body of the thesis consists of three parts. Part One elaborates the basic content of Porter's competitive advantage of nations. He holds that the international competitive advantage of a nation comes from the leading status of certain industries of the nation. Furthermore, he poses the "diamond "structure to foster the international competitive advantage of an industry by inducing six determinants of competitive advantage. The determinants include factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, firm strategy and rivalry, government policy and chance. Advanced and specific factors should be created in a nation to upgrade the economy and the selective factor disadvantage should be circumvented through creation. The guiding home demand can foster the firm's sensitiveness to the market. The size, structure and growth rate of demand all affect the competitiveness of the industry. The international competitive advantage of related and supporting industries can promote the development of the industry. The active and healthy competition in the nation contributes to the birth of winner in the international competition. The continual creation in firm's strategy and proper government policy can have great influence on the international competitive advantage of the industry. Chances can be seized to bring the leap in the industry development though they are not always in control. All the determinants interact and strengthen one another, constituting a close system. Part Two introduces the present situation and future of China's communications industry. As the important part of the information industry, communications industry can be divided into communications equipment making and operating service segments. It should be made clear that the burgeoning Internet Sector is included into communications industry as now in China, Internet have to rely on the telecommunications web to transmit signs. Part Two also analyzes the features of communications industry in the respect of policy and market, existing problems and the future forecast. The communications industry is capital and technology intensive, with both monopoly and competition existing in the market. Supporting policy should be taken with the emphasis on the competition promotion especially in the telecommunications field. In the new century China will face rapid great development of communications industry. Part Three expounds how to build up the "diamond " system to cultivate the international competitive advantage of China's communications industry according to Porter's theory of competitive advantage of nations.
