On The Construction Of China's Life Insurance Underwriting Mechanism

Underwriting system construction is vital to the life insurers?remaining in business in the future. It has been realized by the Chinese insurance regulators. The thesis?On Underwriting System Construction of Life Insurers in China?is written under such background. Starting off the important role of underwriting, this thesis intends to make some suggestions on the underwriting system construction of life insurers in China, by discussing the factors affecting underwriting efficiency and the indexes measuring underwriting efficiency. The thesis can be divided into four parts. In part one, we firstly analyze the theories concerning insurable risk situations, and the problems existed during the applicants?risks transferring, then we present the important role of underwriting to life insurance operation risk management. In part two, how do life insurers appraise their underwriting system is discussed. Firstly we introduce the definition of underwriting efficiency, then discuss the internal and external factors affecting underwriting efficiency, and present the indexes measuring underwriting efficiency of life insurers. In part three, we state the current situation of underwriting system construction of life insurers in China, and analyze the causes of its formation. All of these show it's imperative in China that life insurers should pay attention to the construction of underwriting system. In part four, we make some suggestions on underwriting system construction of life insurers in China. We think the construction of underwriting system should involve the following impacts: underwriting philosophy, underwriters training, underwriters?qualification certification, organization of underwriting, underwriting techniques, statutory requirements and underwriting auditing.
