Based on the author's field research and referring to the data of other researchers, along with historic records and local chronicles, in the way of historic comparative and the perspectives of cultural acculturation, functionalism and ethnologic anthropology, the author elaborates theYugur ethnic group's "Zhangfang Daitou Hun"--one kind of marriage form which ischaracterized by non-marriage to both spouses, explores the reasons of the special marriage form, analyses the social background in which it continued for a long-term, expounds the family structure of "Zhangfang Daitou Hun", and illustrates it's effects on the contemporary Yugur ethnic group's families. The author criticizes the former researchers' views that the "Zhangfang Daitou Hun" is the matriarchal remnant during the evolution of Yugur ethnic group, explains that Yugur ethnic group's ancestors have no this kind of marriage form, while the surrounding ethnic groups such as Mongolian, Tibetan and Tu have the similar marriage custom. Furthermore, the author thinks that the "Zhangfang Daitou Hun" forms a rare kind of family structure characterized by the interlacing of matriarchy and paternity, and it is compatible with the social, historic and natural environments of the pre-1950's Yugur ethnic group, hence the result of cultural compatibility. Although "Zhangfang Daitou Hun" has extinguished as a marriage form, being one kind of social memory, it still has active effects on the life of today's Yugur ethnic group, e.g., the concept of freedom to choose one's spouse, of giving birth to and bringing up the children, and of supporting one's parents.
