| Hull insurance is a kind of the most ancient insurance system. As a sort of service trade promoting international trade and international shipping circles, it plays an extreme important role in the development of national economy, especially for foreign -oriented economy. Hull insurance which regards elementary theory of hull insurance and its system as research subject is an important speciality branch of insurance knowledge. Mastery of theory of hull insurance and practice not only makes for study of basic theory of insurance but also deepens comprehension of operation and management in international shipping circles.China as the largest developing country, imports and exports trade total amount in 2001 has leapt to the seventh place in the whole world, furthermore, tonnage of our commercial fleet is situated as the ninth place beyond question. As insurance market in our country is open to other countries, our maritime insurance industry meets new development opportunity and broad development space, but at the same time we are also faced with new challenge. Based upon above-mentioned factors, pursuing the change of international hull insurance and lucubrating development and change of theory and practice in hull insurance and protection Sindemnity at home and abroad, especially for the development of insurance practice appears to more important. In view of this tendency, the author chooses hull insurance as my research subject.By virtue of comparison method, this paper covers several aspects of hull insurance and protections indemnity including the aspect which is relatively typical , the junction which is the most liable to be cause ambiguous cognition, the aspect in possession of maximum of research value. Five aspects will be specified hereinafter: Chapter I comparison of history and contemporary tendency in hull insurance and protections indemnity. In this chapter, the introduction will be opened out via contrast of origin and development of hull insurance and protections indemnity. In chapter II Comparison of risked covered between hull insurance and protections indemnity, dissimilarity between them will be appraised among CHIC, ITC, CPSI, West of England P&l, UK P&l in this chapter. Chapter III the comparison of counterclaim and claim settlement between hull insurance and protection Sindemnity: In chapter III difference between them will be compared and analyzed by virtue of analysis of counterclaim time bar, payment of compensation Deductible, compensation limitation. Chapter IV: Comparison of existing issue between hull insurance and protection Sindemnity. This chapter will compare and cover these existing issues in CHIC as follows:(1) the stipulation of seaworthiness which lacks rigor in CHIC (2) The existing issue of contaminated danger expected to be amended in CHIC (3) the existing problem of salvation clauseinexpected to be amended; (4) classification clause whose guarantee effetiveness is expected to be further probed in ITC95,(5)defect,s on legislation of protection &indemnity (6)existing issues in directorate who possesses excessive rights. ChapterV. Contrast of development tendency between hull insurance and protection &indemnity. Based on the unification tendency of vessel insurance policy, the tendency that insurant interest is paid more attention to and tendecy of existence of distinction of liability insurance and non-liability insurance , differences will be summarized and tendency will be predicted.The technique of comparison will be mainly utilized in this papers, but it is not only confined to the comparison between hull insurance and protection Sindemnity .
