As an important part of china's economy, airline industry took place a regulation reform that has lasted over twenty years. Now the reform is confronted with the rigorous challenge when china joined the WTO. Then china's airline industry can develop more rapidly through reviewing the progress of the regulation reform and summarizing the experience of success and defeat.The first section of the paper described the definitions and causes of the regulation and market competition. This section analyzed the peculiarities in airline industry. It also provided some suggestions through analyzing the development and changes of American's airline industry.The second section of this paper showed the reason of the china's airline industry reform and depicted the measures that the reform adopted. The third section demonstrated the achievement of the reform from four aspects: transport index, market structure and competition strategy, industry performance and investment system. The analysis showed that the reform of China's airline industry in 1980s and 1990s is a successful case of breaking monopoly and introducing competition in.an industry previously monopolized by a sole state-owned company. However the reform exists some problems and shortcomings.Some foreign countries demand to open the civil market of airline industry after china joined the WTO. For dealing with this new tendency the fourth section summed up the conditions and accounted for the influence to china's airline industry regulation reform and market competition.The last section gave some advices about deepening the reform with management system of airline industry and reinforcing macro management. These suggestions can make up for the defect of the reform and accelerate the process through that china's airline industry can come into being a more competitive market.
