Dalian Marine Tank Terminal Co., Ltd. (DMTTC) is a joint venture established by Odfjell ASA, Norway (44%), Dalian Port Authorities, China (36%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd, Japan (10%), and Van Ommeren Tank Terminals (Asia) B.V., Holland (10%). DMTTC is a public service facility for storage and transfer of bulk liquids, specializing in fine chemical. The increase of chemical trade has been promoting business in DMTTC, from 1998 to 2000, the thoughput increases by 45% every year. Meanwhile, competition in this field has been becoming fierce. DMTTC has been taking the largest market share in northeast China till now. However, gaining profit, the basic goal for all companies, is not achieved by DMTTC. DMTTC must carefully analyze its environment, timely follow the movement and price change of bulk chemicals, and set up an effective strategy to instruct daily business activity.In this article, basing on the modern marketing theories, with the method of integration of theory with practice, the author analyses internal and external environment of DMTTC, and summarizes a practical marketing strategy for DMTTC, which could be taken as reference by similar companies.
