This thesis intends to give an elaboration on the current enlargements of the European Union and NATO, and to analyze the EU-US relations from the perspective of the eastern enlargements. With the end of the Cold War, the Post World War II bipolar structure collapsed and the forming of a new multi-polar structure is undergoing unstable processes, with the US being the only "superpower" and the strength of the EU and some other powers increasing greatly. The enlargements of the EU and NATO are a reflection of the orientation of the new international structure. The two enlargements share common causes on maintaining the traditional Western interests in the fields of economy, politics, culture and values, while at the same time, conflict in the purposes of different organizational interests based on national interests. The EU's great dream of "One United Europe" conflicts with the US's world strategy of maintaining its only super power position and establishing a world structure under the US's leadership. Thus, the traditional trans-Atlantic Partnership is facing great challenges.Based on the elaboration of the processes, challenges and future of the EU and NATO's enlargements, this thesis tries to illustrate the characteristics of the current EU-US relations and give a forecast for its future direction.
