Foreign direct investment (FDI) has developed rapidly since 1980's in our country. It meets the need of capital and foreign exchange in our country. The technology effect of FDI is considered as an important strategy in the proceeding of our modernization. It is significant to estimate the function of FDI on our technology correctly and to take more effective FDI measures to promote our technology level. Based on above consideration, the thesis analyzes the relationship of FDI and technical progress. There are five chapters in the thesis. The main contents and conclusions are described as follow:In Chapter 1, we introduce the background of this research, previous researching results, researching methods and the main contents concerned of the thesis.In Chapter 2, the concept of energy transferring in physics is introduced to prove that technical potential gap is the sufficient and necessary condition of technical diffusion. Then, we discuss the effect of international technology transferring in the developing countries.In Chapter 3, based on the above analysis, we discuss the factors of FDI technology transferring and analyze the direct effect and indirect effect of FDI. The conclusion shows that the manufacture and R&D activities of FDI, especially of scaled multinational enterprises, benefit to our technology progress.In Chapter 4, we use Granger Causal Relationship Test to analyze the causation between FDI and technology progress in our country, the results show that FDI is the important reason of technology progress in our country. Cointegration Relationship Test shows that there is no mutual growth trend in the long run between FDI and technology progress, therefore, from a long-term point of view we should not pay too much great attention to the function of FDI on technology progress.In Chapter 5, according to present economical environment in our country, we give some advice on how to absorb enough excellent FDI enterprises and how to induce technology transferring and spilling.
