Chinese Marxism has evolved as we have taken our own road by integrating the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism with China's actual conditions. The exploration of this road was full of difficulties and setbacks. Through the generations, the members of the Communist Party of China put painstaking efforts into the development of Chinese Marxism. Qu Qiubai was a great Marxist, a pioneer of the New-Democratic Revolution and one of the most important leaders of our Party in its infancy. In the early stage of our party and the hard times of China's revolution, when there was a lack of guiding theory and practical experience, Qu Qiubai was studying hard and actively propagating Marxism-Leninism, integrating it with China's actual conditions and pondering the vital problems which confronted China's revolution. He made an innovative and indelible contribution to the application and development of Marxism in China, the formation of China's revolutionary theory and the exploration of China's revolutionary road. He propelled the accomplishment of Chinese Marxism. His main merits and achievements are as follows: He was a pioneer of studying and propagating Marxism-Leninism. He farsightedly advanced and incisively expounded and proved a series of theoretical theses about China's revolution, such as the leadership of proletariat, the problem of peasants, armed struggle, Kuomingtang-Communist Cooperation and Party building. However, the evolution of Chinese Marxism was not all plain sailing. During its progress, Qu made mistakes, particularly his leftist extremism. This error manifested itself in his attitudes toward the nature of the revolution, the tactics of struggle and the problem of land. After the Great Revolution in China failed, our Party initially committed the error of leftist extremism, which had subjective and objective reasons. Qu, as the main leader of our Party at that time, is partly responsible. But the error cannot be totally imputed to him. Furthermore, he can't be regarded as the representative of the error. It was a collective fault that was impossible to avoid for the infant Party during the process of bravely exploring the revolutionary ways suitable for China's actual conditions. In any case, Qu Qiubai was a model and forerunner during the long evolution of Chinese Marxism. He was a significant founder of Mao Zedong Thought. His revolutionary ideas and experiences laid the foundations of his historical role as a great Marxist and brilliant proletarian revolutionary of our Party. His contributions and errors reflect the evolution of Chinese Marxism under the Communist Party of China. Through studying his experience, we may gain great enlightenment, which can help us to explore the new state of Chinese Marxism. During the evolution of Chinese Marxism, he worked diligently, thought deeply and sought truth unswervingly, manifesting an admirable spirit.
