Since George W. Bush came into power in 2001, the American neo-conservatives have played a great role in the formation of the foreign and defense policy of Bush administration. The neo-conservatives urged Bush to implement the foreign policy of anti-terrorism and establishing U.S.-style democracy in the Middle East, and in 2003 the U.S. waged the Iraq war to overthrow Saddam regime to establish a democratic example in the Middle East; Bush administration implemented the"Greater Middle East Initiative"in order to establish the U.S.-style democracy in the Middle East and to eliminate the terrorism in this region. But the implementation of the neo-conservatives'and Bush administration's Middle East policy has met a lot of troubles: the U.S. has been lost in the war mire of Iraq, the"Greater Middle East Initiative"has made little progress, and the terrorism in the region is still rampant. This essay has several main parts: the first chapter introduces the developing course of the American neo-conservatives, the second chapter introduces their main representatives and their main thoughts, the third chapter analyzes why the neo-conservatives can influence the foreign policy and defense policy of the Bush administration, the fourth chapter analyzes the Bush administration's Middle East foreign policy, the fifth chapter is the case study part, which analyzes the reasons and results of the Iraq war and Bush administration's promotion of democracy in Palestine, the sixth chapter reviews Bush administration's Middle East foreign policy and the influence of the policy results towards the neo-conservatives, and the last part points out the decline of neo-conservatives and Bush's partial adjustment of his foreign policy, but Bush is impossible to give up his fore passed Middle East foreign policy completely.
