Choice Of The Md With The Korean Government

During the Cold War, U.S. mainly depended on retaliatory threat of the aggressive weapons, but yet it had never given up pursuing for strategic defense. After the Cold War, U.S. decided to develop and deploy missile defense system that the main reason is Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD) proliferation.Since entering into 21st century, the world strategic situation has still been a so-called "one super and many strong" world pattern. U.S., as only one current "super-power", has occupied leading position all the time in developing new weapon, advanced military science & technology and missile defense. Since over a long time, U.S. has tried to keep its absolute superiority in military so as to ensure its own Absolute Safety, and persisted in developing missile defense system.Especially, after George W. Bush became president of the United States, U.S. made MD policy as its own new safety and defense strategy, meanwhile developed and deployed MD system aggressively. In addition to prevent from WMD proliferation and to cope with increasing missile threat, another reason why U.S. to progress MD policy, is to keep its leading position in the realms of polity, economy, diplomacy, military and science & technology. Bush administration publicly indicate North Korea as one of the missile threat countries, so U.S. deemed that Northeast Asia region including Korea Peninsula as the high potential region to deploy MD system. South Korea is the direct objective country of North Korea missile threat, but South Korea government has always kept an ambiguous attitude in the problem that whether participate in U. S. MD system for a variety of reasons.This thesis not only analyzes the evolutionary process of U.S. missile defense system and the effect of U.S. MD policy on the safety of Northeast Asia, but also discusses the factors considered when South Korea Government build missile defense system, and its standpoints for MD policy. Through the above mentioned analyses and discussions, this thesis try to offer the choice of South Korea Government to missile defense and to put forward its expected effect.
