Reflect On Modernity And Cares About The Source Of Risk

With the global man-made disasters occurred frequently and modern sociological theory study in depth, there appeared to be combination of integration of social risk theory. German sociologist Ulrich·Beck is the representative of the emerging theory. Beck feels contemporary society seems to be increasing the risk of serious problems and brings forward "reflection on Modernity" idea, re-examines the process of the modernization of the West , makes a relatively objective evaluation of achievements and blunders of the capitalist industrialization; reveals the inherent contradictions of the modernity and its new manifestations in the global risk society. The contemporary "global" primacy over the interests of one-sidedness of the economic activities was severely criticized. Beck's reflection of modern idea has a sense of the times. Concept of risk is the core concept of risk social theory. Beck gives the notion of"risk"complicated connotations. Risk is not only a potential threat towards future but a social construction"tackling the potential threat". The greatest risk is characterized by its"uncertainty". The concept of risk is assessment and understanding of the dialectical unity under the Marxist Philosophy Context, which is a negative value in people's minds. That U·Beck regards so-called "the technical development side effect" as the source of risk and disaster seems obscure, because ,in the capitalist industrialization process ,the science and technology together with other factors of productivity such as the labor force, currency and natural resource all turned into the capital from which capitalists obtain the profit. The science and technology as the essential factors of knowledge economy served as the"tool"of capital profit winning.The true fountainhead of risk is"the capital logic"and its launch, namely modernity itself.
