The friendship between U.S. and Saudi Arabia lasts for more than sixty years, however, the "9·11" Event affected the U.S.-Saudi friendly relations deeply. It disturbed the communication between the two countries. The trust was also dropped. The U.S. and Saudi take more and more attentions on counterterrorism, democratization and reform. After "9·11" event, neo-conservatism began to gain the power in the United States. Under the influence of neo-conservatism, the United States launched the war on terror. Further more, the U.S. carried out the strategy of democratization in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia feels the pressure, which comes from the United States.Saudi cooperates with the U.S. in many ways to counter terrorism. The Riyadh explosion in May 12 changed the Saudi government's passive attitude to counter terrorism. In the area of combating terror financing and money laundering, the Saudi government introduced many advanced methods to monitor the charitable organizations. The Saudi government takes variety of ways to counter terrorism in domestic community, and has made great achievements. After "9·11" event, the Greater Middle East Plan was put forward by the United States, which aims at carrying out political, economic, social and cultural reforms in the Middle East. In this situation, the Saudi government carried out the municipal elections, National Dialogue Convention, founded Human Rights Organization.In the areas of counterterrorism, democratization and reform, the U.S. - Saudi relationship changed subtly. It faces great challenges to forge a new relationship between the two countries, but in the long run, the U.S. and Saudi will still keep as strategic alliance. After "9·11" event, Saudi's "Look-east" foreign policy and diversification trend turn clearer, which provide both opportunities and challenges for other countries.
