There is no doubt that the pursuit of social harmony is an eternal goal for human. Corruption, as history and reality repeatedly proved, is the enemy of the building of a harmonious society, for which the fight against corruption is an intrinsic requirement. In response to the new mission of constructing a harmonious socialist society, a great importance is attached to the compaign of the anti-corruption. According to the report of the Seventeenth National Party Congree, the prevention and punishment of corruption , which makes a difference to the future of the people and the party, is a principal political task for the party. Great achievements have been made in this compaign: first, many corrupt officials have been thrown out; second, institutional innovations enable us to explore a new way of fighting corruption and building a clean government, and to initially establish a system in harmony with the market economy; third, the strategic policies from the Central Committee have been effectively implemented of prevention prior to punishment in a thorough and comprehensive way.Building a harmonious society, in the practice of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, is consistent with the spirit of the control of conrruption. This paper, on the basis of the consistency between combating corruption and building a harmonious society, attempts to further reveal the sources and consequences of corruption and to put forward some proposals.The paper consists of three parts. The first part elaberates the fact that corruption is the biggest obstacle to a harmonious society, and probes into the connotations of a harmonious society and its operating mechanism; the second part makes an analysis of the significance and requisites of the building of a harmonious society in the context of the anti-corruption campaign; the third part aims to offer some suggestions and strategies to control corruption. First, to give publicity to the anti-corruption campaign to build a strong ideological and moral dam; second, to strengthen the system construction and its the fundamental role played by the system; third, to reinforce the supervisory mechanism and effectively regulate the operation of power; fourth, to stick to reform and innovation, and promote the prevention; last but not the least, to severely punish those corrupt officials.
