Washington's long-existing policy on arms sales to Taiwan is not only recognition of Taiwan's political independence, but also a serious violation to China's sovereignty. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the United States, arms sales to Taiwan has always been one of the most sensitive issues for Sino-US relations. With the methodology of history and reality, deduction and induction, this paper centers on the impact of Sino-US relations on arms sales to Taiwan in recent 60 years, the analysis of Sino-US relations development, and mapping out the possible tendency. Via the study of history, this paper tries to conclude the changes and adjustments of the policy and judge from perspectives of different periods of Sino-US relations, furthermore educe the ulterior reasons and impacts of Sino-US relations. Through the research, awareness of difficulties and challenges facing the unification of motherland can be gained to facilitate the final settlement of Taiwan issue.
