In the Middle East, Iran is a big country and Israel is a power country, Iran-Israel relations have an important effect on the security of the two countries and the geopolitical of the Middle East. Iran and Israel has established a union during the Pahlavi period, which experienced three stages: the understanding each other and establishing relations (1948.5-1957) , the prosperous development (1958-1970), the cooperation and differences(1971-1979).To divides this dissertation into four parts. The first part has specifically elaborated the understanding each other and establishing relations of Iran-Israel. After World War II, the appearance of the East-West Cold War and the emergence of Arab nationalism in the Middle East. Iran-Israel facing the similar security dilemma has laid a precondition for the two countries. With the establishment of Israel, the question of Palestine increasingly serious, to some extent Jews in Arab countries have been persecuted, particularly in Iraq seriously. Israel tries to find cooperation with non-Arab countries for rescuing Iraqi-Jews. The pro-US policies of the shah of Pahlavi and US-Israel special relationship were no doubt to promote the alliance of Iran-Israel. In March 1950, Iran de facto recognized the status of the State of Israel. The Mosaddeq government has implemented oil nationalization movement which made Iran fall into dilemma; Iran was forced to shut down the consulate in Israel, which has an impact on Iran-Israel relations. After the shah of Pahlavi control the power once again, countries security and national interests has promoted Iran-Israel re-foundation friendly relations, but still maintain in the framework of the de facto recognition. The second part has mainly confessed the prosperous development of Iran-Israel relations. The security needs has made Iran-Israel secret and quickly develop the allies under the guidance of the peripheral pact strategy. Israel has purchased the Iranian oil, Iran has exchanged Israel's weapon, and Israel has also provided Iran with advanced agricultural technology, continuously enriched the relations between the two countries. Under the framework of the external alliance, Iran-Israel relations has got the prosperous development, but still in the secret. The third part has mainly talked about the cooperation and differences of Iran-Israel relations. With the arrival of 70's, "easing" has became the keynote of international relations, the radical Arab world have emerged the new change- turned the west. The changes of the geo-strategic environment and the sharp increase in Iran's oil revenues, which have stimulated the shah of Pahlavrs ambitions for seeking a regional power. The shah of Pahiavi appeared pro-Arab tendencies of the new changes on diplomatic in order to obtain Arab States' recognition of Iran's great powers status. But the security dilemma of Iran and Israel facing has not been a fundamental change, Iran-Israel relations continued to develop. Iran and Israel have researched the missile project of the military field, which indicated the two countries relationship reaching its peak. However, the end of the 70's, domestic changed in Iran and religious forces gained the upper hand, the regime of the Pahiavi collapsed and Iran-Israel relations fall into low.The fourth part has specifically analyzed the factors that affected Iran-Israel relations during the Pahiavi period. The entire Pahiavi period, Iran-Israel relations were kept in low and secret. From a pragmatic perspective, the two countries of Iran and Israel have put national interests at the first place rather than ideological, which kept a non-conventional pragmatism union. Mainly influenced by the following factors: the geopolitical factors of common responses the threats from the Soviet Union and challenges from the radical Arab countries has laid a foundation for their strategic cooperation; the collaboration of military, economic and security has promoted the relations to the comprehensive field, and the special connections of Israel-U.S. and the alliance of Iran-U.S. has further consolidated the relationship.
