Deng Xiaoping's Social Construction Thought

Deng Xiaoping's ideology of social construction gradually came into being during the practice of reform and opening-up. Under the guidance of his ideology, the state, on the one hand, gradually relaxed its control on society, hence substantial changes between state and society; on the other, socialist construction, in terms of every aspect such as politics, economy, culture and society (in the narrow sense), scored tremendous accomplishments. This master's dissertation, via an overall and systematic review of De Xiaoping's ideology, summarizes the content of his ideology on socialist construction and its historical status and practical significance.This dissertation is divided into four chapters. The first chapter, based on a literature review of relevant findings, defines what social construction and De Xiaoping's ideology on social construction are respectively. The second chapter expands on the relationship between De Xiaoping's ideology on social construction and that of Marxism and goes on to clarify the background against which De Xiaoping's ideology was in embryo. The third chapter sets out to elucidate the main content of De Xiaoping's ideology on social construction, which mainly includes the following four aspects: stimulate social vitality and adjust social structure to promote a full balanced development of society; Create a favorable environment for social development and safeguard social stability and unity; respect social laws and rules and push ahead the cause of social construction through theoretic research and social practice; adhere to the socialist road and make all-sided headway. The fourth chapter evaluates Deng Xiaoping's ideology on social construction objectively from the perspective of historical status, practical significance and inspiration to contemporary times. Deng Xiaoping's ideology on social construction is believed to have inherited and furthermore, enriched the theory of Marxism, to be a guideline to societal development, to provide a theoretical and practical basis on which the ideology of harmonious society construction and the theory of social construction took shape, and to have a guiding significance in promoting the current social construction focused on the improvement of people's livelihood and well-being.
