Assessment is a basic feedback mechanism of education in preschool, and also an effective means of improving education quality, such as in following aspects: children's learning,teachers' professional development and the development of curriculum an instruction.After ten years of the Guidelines for Kindergarten Education operation, the concepts and pattern in assessment has been making changes and progress, but there are still some problems and difficulties in the process of assessment,such as how to collect information, what kind of information is needed, and how to interpret the information.The Work Sampling System can help us solve the problem. This tool provides a structured observation framework, can guides teachers to collect the information purposefully, to interpret the information. In a word, the researcher agrees that the work sampling system have important practical value in proving the problem in assessment of preschools' at the stage.This research informs two questions:how to use the Work Sampling System in preschool of china, and, to achieving the purpose of improving teaching, how to use the Work Sampling System, and what need to do.Multi-methods are adopted in this research:action research, interviews, text analysis. The researchers mainly focus following three aspects:(1) analyzes in the theory" the Work Sampling System how to do 'assessment for teaching'" (2) In practical, we chose two areas (science and art), and operate the work sampling system, and check out the result. Findings as follows:(1) The Work Sampling System can achieve the aim "assessment for teaching", because:it has development guidelines based the curriculum, provides the structured reference; it stresses the wide range of assessment criteria; and it asks authentic situations, continuous observations, it focus on two aspects:results and process. Finally, interpreting the information collected is important for it.(2)In practice, we amendment the development guidelines, catering for the Guidelines for Kindergarten, distinguish the performance of children, and give some advise.(3)With the process, we find some progress:the observation of teachers'with more purposefully and wide vision, and the teachers can use collected information to improve teaching.The following correlative questions should be studied in the future research; enhancing the science of amendmenting the development guidelines, enhancing of the vanity of using the information of assessment.
