Along with the development of theory and the advance of practice, focus of the field of research on teaching has been turned from teachers’action to teachers’ thought process. And the concept of "teacher as decision-maker" has been accepted by most researchers. Teachers’ ability of decision-making not only effect the result of his/her teaching and students’ learning, but also, in the long run, is of great importance to teachers’ professional competence and the whole career. Teachers’ evaluative decision-making, the key factor of decision-making improvement, plays a special role in the whole instructive decision-making process. Besides, novice teachers are in the start stage of their career, their performance during which may make big difference to their later development. Therefore, it’s very necessary to have a profound discussion about novice teachers’evaluative decision-making.According to the reviewing of domestic and foreign related documents about teachers’instructive decision-making, the existing research mainly devoted to give a description of teachers’instructive decision-making as a whole. Some of them which concerned the novice teachers are tend to take a model of expert-novice teacher comparison. There are few researchers who conduct their research concerned with novice teachers’evaluative decision-making. However, the findings and conclusions of these existing researches can offer lots of fundamental material for my research.On the basis of analysis and integration of former research, this thesis, by delicate speculative methods,discriminates the connotation of novice teacher and evaluative decision-making, analyses the content it covers and discusses the value of it. Teachers’evaluative decision-making includes the decision-making about evaluating matters, about evaluating methods and about other evaluating elements. Novice teachers’evaluative decision-making is significant to promote their professional competence, to better the teaching effect and to help the students’overall development. The research can conduct under the leader of the learning theory of Constructivism, the theory of decision-making and the reflective teaching theory.In order to reflect the teaching practice, this research has done a practical study in novice teachers’evaluative decision-making. The research designed a questionnaire and an interview outline to study the current situation of novice teachers’evaluative decision-making. According to the study, novice teachers are weak in the awareness, the independence and the orientation of their evaluative decision-making.In the end, the thesis inquires into the problem that, for novice teachers, how to rationalize their evaluative decision-making. There are several factors that can effect novice teachers’ evaluative decision-making:the novice teachers’ beliefs, knowledge, students’ characteristics, other colleagues’ experience and the official evaluative system, etc. And novice teachers can optimize their evaluative decision-making in many ways, such as self-study, teaching reflection and action study and so on.
