Developing of Students’ plausible reasoning ability has become an important aspect of innovative Education. Plausible reasoning was firstly introduced to high school mathematics curriculum,2003. In ’Ordinary High School Mathematics Curriculum Standard’, the teaching objective was put forward that high school students should have simple reasoning capability by induction and analogy, and also have experienced and recognized the role of plausible reasoning in mathematical discovery. How about the effect of plausible reasoning teaching during recent years?In order to grasp the development status of students’plausible reasoning ability and teaching effect, an investigation is conducted among some teachers and students from senior grade two and senior grade three of No.27High School of Nanjing. Some conclusions are obtained as follows:(1) The plausible reasoning ability of science students is significantly better than that of arts students.(2)The plausible reasoning ability of girl students is not significantly different from that of boy students.(3)The plausible reasoning ability of Grade three students is significantly better than that of Grade two students.(4)The development status of Students’ plausible reasoning ability has little relationship with their synthesize score and math score.(5)The interest in learning math has significant impact on the development of students’ plausible reasoning ability.(6)Teachers’ training effect on plausible reasoning ability is not evident.(7)Students’ability on inductive reasoning is better than that on analogical reasoning.(8)The development of plausible reasoning ability is also affected by other factors such as reading ability, comprehension of mathematical symbols and mathematical language, mathematical expression ability, and so on.Some strategy and suggestion are put forward based on the investigation as follows:(1) A more reasonable and scientific evaluation mechanism which emphasis on process evaluation should be established. The specific weight about plausible reasoning of the volume of exam questions in college entrance examination and other important examinations should be appropriate increased. Plausible reasoning ability should also be tested in comprehensive questions.(2) Teachers should deeply understand the Ordinary High School Mathematics Curriculum Standard, and change teaching ideas about plausible reasoning, pay more attention to process to developing students’plausible reasoning ability imperceptibly, and also attach importance to non-intelligence factors and how to develop students’ interest in learning math.(3)Students should recognize the value of plausible reasoning, form good thinking habits and change the ways of studying for self-exploration. Finally, the contents which are suitable for developing students’ plausible reasoning ability is find out and detailed analyzed.
