YCT is an international standardized Chinese Language proficiency assessment test which is organized by NOCFL (China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language), with the intention of assessing whether the primary and middle school students whose native language is not Chinese can Chinese well in daily life and learning activities. Cambridge Young Learners’ English Tests (CYLE) is a measurement system, developed by university of Cambridge examination committee, for examining the English level of 6 to 12 years old children, those for whom English is a second language. The design for this test is already quite mature as a whole and there are a lot of ideas and methods which merits our reference and study. But in actual, fewer researches on new Youth Chinese Test exist and that there are never any studies on the comparison between new YCT and CYLE. Therefore, this paper tries to recognize the advantages and disadvantages of each test and provide some suggestions for new YCT through comparing of these two children’s language tests.Five YCT and CYLE three-level sets of past papers are selected to analyze new YCT and CYLE. These analyses are in five aspects containing the different types of listening and reading examination questions, the proportion of questions, the presentation methods of questions as well as corpus length and content. Based on researches on the comparison above, there are some conclusions that new YCT merits the widely sources of language materials, adoption of real photos and primarily emphasis on the ability of language application. However, new YCT does not offer multiple types of questions and enough length of language materials. Another deficiency is the great number of Chinese characters in listening test.By referencing some successful experiences in CYLE Test, three advices are given for YCT, enriching the types of questions, decreasing the use of Chinese characters and expanding the length of language materials in listening and reading tests.
