The “new mathematic courses standards” of free charge education has a clear claim thatthe teachers should hold the essences of mathematic teaching contents and the actual situationof students, then make a proper teaching target and teaching plan ”. Above all, thousands ofin-service teachers should do their best to improve the level of their specialization and dealwith the teaching materials properly. The definition of materials processing is that under thedirection of curriculum standards, according to the characteristics of subjects, the level ofstudents’ cognition development and the school teaching conditions, the teachers couldexploit and design the course creatively by simplifying, expanding, replacing or adjusting theorder of the teaching materials. The teachers should also have the ability of holding the newteaching resources which was produced in teaching process. By adjusting the teaching design,the teachers could serve for students’ learning more effectively.To learn the present situation of in-service teachers’ ability about materials processing,we choose an expert and a novice who come from a primary school in Shenyang as ourobjects of the case studies. We collect the datum by class observation, interview and the textanalysis. By investigating the difference of the materials processing ability between noviceand expert, we expand the study territory of comparing novice with expert.By comparing the teaching designs of the novice with the expert, taking a continueobservation in the two teachers’ classes, and knowing about the idea of their teachingdesigns,I discovered that there is a significant difference between the novice and the expert inthe theoretical basis and scale of materials processing, the accuracy of holding the teachingtarget, the pattern of leading-in the new knowledge, the teaching language and master degreein classes.As to this problem that there is a significant difference between the novice and the expertin the ability materials processing, we just hope to provide some practical advices which canhelp novices to achieve their professional development by supplying the pre-service andin-service training suggestions...
