With the development of new media technology, college students have become the major users of new media, which, has brought both positive and negative influences towards them.In the process of cultivating college students’core socialist values, neither the administration nor the teachers are giving enough attention to new media. This is because they haven’t fully realized the relationship between new media and the students’core socialist values.This thesis is based on an experimental research of "students from three colleges in Sichuan Province, mainly focuses on the present status of new media and the influence which it imposes upon college students.The thesis first analyses both the opportunities and challenges new media has brought to students’core socialist values. There are opportunities because new media has provide a new way to cultivate students’core socialist values in that it offers more interactions and resources. There are also challenges because new media has weakened students’ initiatives, which has made the situation more complicated, therefore, has greatly affected the punctuality and mutual recognition.Take the transmission characteristics of new media into consideration, this thesis proposes a strategy to cultivate students’core socialist values. That is, insist on the three basic principles, i.e. Adhere to the guiding principles of Marxism; applying and development; leading and screening. At the practical level, there are three ways to realize the strategy, i.e. to fully develop the positive influence; to eliminate the negative influence; to follow the trend of new media, and to improve the quality of them.
